Call for Papers: Mormon Scholars in the Humanities 2027

Mormon Scholars in the Humanities (MSH) invites proposals for its 20th-anniversary conference, Breaking Bread: Peace & Conflict, taking place May 26–28, 2027, at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. The organizers welcome work from across the humanities, including papers, panels, creative work, performances, and hands-on workshops.

As the call explains, “The conference organizers follow Professor Mason in opening the theme of Breaking Bread: Peace & Conflict to broad and creative interpretation across the humanities.” Possible topics range from Latter-day Saint foodways, sacrament and reconciliation, hospitality, and peacebuilding to Indigenous food sovereignty, environmental humanities, and the role of technology in food and agriculture.

Proposal deadline: November 1, 2026
Conference: May 26–28, 2027
Location: Utah State University, Logan, Utah
Who can apply: Graduate and undergraduate students, independent scholars, and affiliated scholars. No institutional or religious affiliation is required.

Submit an abstract of up to 250 words for a paper or organized panel, along with a bio of up to 50 words, through the conference submission form. The call notes that graduate students may indicate interest in a travel grant. Those who need to participate remotely should request consideration in their initial submission; only a limited number of virtual presentations are anticipated.
